Day 34 - Road Trip to Monterey, California

Ok, I’ve officially ridden through EVERYTHING.   Snow, rain, cross-winds, road construction, 100+ degree weather, freezing weather.   Argh!    The weather has definitely been my biggest obstacle.
I left this morning early because it was supposed to be 106’ in the Fresno area.   Thank God I chose to wear all of my riding gear because about 2 hours into the ride, it turned COLD.   I mean super cold, I had goosebumps going down the road.   I  also fought cross-winds for 20-30 long miles.  Not what I expected!

I was most nervous about coming to Monterey because the closest campsite to the racetrack was first come first serve with 3 day maximum.   There are 140,000 people expected at Leguna Seca so no reservations and plan B was a little iffy.   After touring the campground, it decided I didn’t like it very well so I went the the visitors center....
They helped me find a campsite with pool and wi-fi in Carmel Valley, which I thought was further front the track but it’s closer! Now I get to ride over a mountain pass to get to the track, should be way more fun and way less traffic!  Wahoo.
Starting mileage: 14150
Expenses:
Gas        $12.00
Food       $0.00
Lodging    $35.00
Misc.      $0.00
Total      $47.00
Saved      $3.00+
+/- Trip   $667.00-

  1. Still enjoying your trip blog. You're made of more sterner stuff than I (about 2 weeks is my limit before I have to get off the bike for a while).
    Keep the posts coming!
